Water Usage:
- Requires more soap and detergent for cleaning
- Reduces water pressure due to mineral buildup
Economic:
- Increases energy consumption and bills
- Raises maintenance costs for appliances and plumbing
Other:
- Affects the taste and odor of water

- Refers to the concentration of dissolved substances like minerals, salts, and metals.
- Measured in mg/L or ppm.
Effects of high TDS:
- Unpleasant taste and odor
- Scaling and corrosion in pipes and appliances
- Skin and hair problems
- Stains on clothes and utensils
Acceptable TDS levels:
- 0-300 mg/L: Excellent
- 300-600 mg/L: Good

Characteristics | UV Disinfection | Chlorine Disinfection |
---|---|---|
Method | Uses UV light to kill germs | Adds chlorine to water to kill germs |
Effectiveness | 99.99% effective against bacteria, viruses, and protozoa | Effective against bacteria and viruses, but less effective against protozoa |
Chemical Use | No chemicals added | Chlorine added to water |
Taste and Odor | No effect on taste and odor | Can leave unpleasant taste and odor |
Maintenance | Low maintenance, replace UV lamp periodically | Regular testing and adjustment of chlorine levels |
Cost | Higher initial cost, lower operating cost | Lower initial cost, higher operating cost |

What’s the difference between RO and UV purification?
RO (Reverse Osmosis) vs UV (Ultraviolet) Purification:
Characteristics | RO Purification | UV Purification |
---|---|---|
Method | Uses semi-permeable membrane to filter water | Uses UV light to kill germs |
Contaminant Removal | Removes up to 99% of contaminants, including dissolved solids, bacteria, viruses, and parasites | Effective against bacteria, viruses, and protozoa, but not against dissolved solids |
Water Quality Improvement | Improves taste, odor, and quality | Does not improve taste, odor, or quality |
Maintenance | Regular filter replacement and cleaning | Periodic UV lamp replacement |
Flow Rate | Slower flow rate due to filtration process | Faster flow rate, no filtration process |
Cost | Higher cost due to membrane replacement | Lower cost, UV lamp replacement less frequent |
Water Waste | Generates waste water during filtration | No water waste |
What is UV-C in water purification?
• Killing bacteria, viruses, and protozoa
• Inactivating germs and microorganisms
• Preventing waterborne diseases UV-C is a chemical-free, low-maintenance, and effective method for disinfecting water, making it safe for drinking.
What is ion exchange water softening?
• Resin beads that attract and hold calcium and magnesium ions
• Replacing them with sodium or potassium ions, making water "soft" This process:
• Reduces scaling and damage to pipes and appliances
• Improves cleaning and soap lathering
• Makes water feel softer and more comfortable for skin and hair
